The Estate & Location
1. Where is the estate located? The Four Cabin House sits on a private fell-top in Utsjoki, the northernmost municipality of the European Union. Deep within the Sámi heartland of Finnish Lapland, the estate spans 80.5 hectares (200 acres) of ancient wilderness, featuring its own private waterfall, seasonal streams, and an unobstructed Arctic horizon.
2. How private is the experience? Absolute. With no neighboring structures or public trails within sight, the estate offers total seclusion. You are surrounded only by untouched tundra—a rare sanctuary of silence and stillness.
3. How do I reach this remote sanctuary? The most seamless arrival is via Ivalo Airport (IVL). From there, a scenic 2.5-hour drive through the Arctic landscape leads you to Utsjoki. We can arrange a private chauffeured transfer to ensure your transition into the wilderness is effortless. Alternatively, Alta (Norway) and Kittilä (Finland) offer beautiful approach routes through the North.
4. Is a private vehicle necessary? While a rental car offers the freedom to explore the borderlands of Finland and Norway, many guests prefer our private transfer service. Once at the estate, the world outside feels secondary.
5. How do I access the cabin upon arrival? To preserve the integrity of the fell, vehicles are left at our private gated parking area. From there, we provide a curated transfer via all-terrain vehicle or snowmobile (depending on the season) for the final 1.4km journey to the house.
Living & Design
6. What is the guest capacity? The house is architecturally optimized for 4 guests across two dedicated sleeping wings. For families or small groups, we can accommodate an additional 2 guests using premium futon bedding.
7. What are the check-in and check-out times? Arrival is welcomed from 16:00, and we bid you farewell by 12:00.
8. Is the estate pet-friendly? To protect the local wildlife and maintain the hypoallergenic standards of the interior, we maintain a no-pet policy.
9. Are essentials provided? Naturally. We provide high-quality linens, towels, and all the artisanal comforts expected of a premium retreat.
10. What is included in my stay? Your stay includes firewood for our two fireplaces and escorted transfers to and from the house upon arrival and departure.
11. Which bespoke services can be arranged? Through Stay North, we can curate a private chef, bespoke wilderness guiding, aurora hunting. Please consult our activities section to tailor your stay.
12. Connectivity and Media The cabin is a place to disconnect, yet we provide high-speed internet suitable for remote work or streaming. A 65” screen with iintegrated streaming services is available for cinematic evenings, and a mobile 5G tablet is provided for navigation during your excursions.
13. Culinary Facilities The kitchen is a space designed for the epicurean traveler, featuring high-end appliances (oven, dishwasher, blender, and coffee curation station) and all necessary utensils for gourmet preparation.
14. Wellness: Sauna & Heat The house features a traditional Finnish sauna (electric) for evening restoration. Comfort is maintained through silent underfloor heating, complemented by two minimalist fireplaces for atmosphere and warmth.
The Arctic Environment
15. Can I witness the Northern Lights from the house? The house was positioned specifically for the Aurora. With zero light pollution and a north-facing architectural glass facade, the lights are often visible directly from your bedside or the living area from late August through March.
16. What wildlife shares the estate? The land is a corridor for reindeer and the elusive Arctic fox. While the "Big Three" of the North—bear, lynx, and wolverine—roam the wider region, they are rare guests, ensuring the estate remains a peaceful place for exploration.
17. What activities are available on-site? The 80 hectares serve as your private playground for snowshoeing, hiking, and fell-skiing. You may begin your journey into the wild directly from your doorstep.
18. Why is there no outdoor jacuzzi? In alignment with our philosophy of Minimal Interference, we have chosen not to install an outdoor pool. This preserves the delicate water balance of the fell and ensures the architecture remains a quiet observer of nature, not an intruder.
Safety & Logistics
19. How far are local amenities? The nearest grocery selections and local dining in Utsjoki or Karigasniemi are 40–60 minutes away.
20. Privacy & Discretion (NDA) We are accustomed to hosting high-profile individuals requiring absolute anonymity. NDAs and specialized security protocols can be coordinated via Stay North prior to your arrival.
21. Medical & Emergency Services The remote nature of the North requires respect. While we provide a comprehensive emergency kit and 5G communication, professional medical facilities are approximately 2.5 hours away. We advise guests to move through the wilderness with mindfulness.
22. Minimum Stay To honor the logistical journey and the "Slow Travel" philosophy, we generally require a 3 to 5-night minimum stay.
23. Is the property for sale? The Four Cabin House is a cherished private estate and is not currently on the market.
